Jaws™ is a universal adapter designed to be used with the Dust Muzzle Type II. This version of Jaws is designed to accept the Dust Muzzle Type II for all 7”-9” electric and pneumatic right angle grinders with round bearing housings.
1. Measure the diameter of the bearing housing (1) of your grinder
and find the corresponding line on ring (2) of the UA.
2. Move the brackets (3) so that they correspond to the lines
closest to the diameter of your bearing housing (1). Tighten the
set screws (4) so that the brackets (3) can still be moved with light
pressure but are not loose.
The UA comes assembled with the set screws (4) in the middle
holes of the brackets (3). If you have a bearing housing diameter (1)
larger than 2.5”, you may have to remove the set screws (4) from the
middle holes (5) of the brackets and put them into the innermost
holes (5a) in the brackets.
3. Put the appropriate small hose clamp (6) loosely around the
brackets (3) and place the UA onto the bearing housing (1) of your
grinder. For proper alignment of the Dust Muzzle Type II (9), one of
the brackets (3) must point directly forward. Tighten the small hose
clamp (6) around the bearing housing (1) making sure to keep the
arbor (7) is in the center of the aperture (8) of the ring (2).
4. When the small hose clamp (6) is securely tightened around the
bearing housing (1), tighten the set screws (4) to lock the ring (2)
into position. Make sure the aperture (8) is still centered on the
arbor (7)
5. Place the Dust Muzzle Type II (9) onto the ring (2) of the UA.
Loosely tighten the large hose clamp (10) around the collar (11)
of the Dust Muzzle and align the Dust Muzzle Type II (9) so the
exhaust port points toward rear of the grinder. Install the wheel
(12) you are going to use onto the arbor (7) and tighten it securely.
6. Adjust the height of the Dust Muzzle Type II (9) on the ring (2)
so that the skirt (13) of the Dust Muzzle Type II (9) is 1/8” lower
(i.e. 1/8” closer to the work) than the wheel and tighten the large
hose clamp (10). If the wheel is very thin, there may not be enough
adjustment available in the collar (11). In this case, use the spacer
washers (14) to move the wheel further down the arbor (7) to
achieve the proper vertical alignment. At least four threads from
the arbor (7) must be securely in the wheel (12).
7. In the case of grinders that do not have a bearing housing (1)
but are flush, you may use the enclosed socket head screws (15)
or an equivalent machine screw to attach the ring (2) to the face
of the grinder. A series of mounting holes (16) are provided. If
these holes do not correspond to the hole pattern on your grinder,
you may drill clearance holes in the face of the ring (2) that
match the hole pattern of your grinder and attach the ring (2) as
mentioned above.
